Doesn't man's best friend deserve man's best treats? That is exactly what Sugar Plum by Kate aims to do for all the dogs out there. We were so lucky to get a chance to speak with Kate about how the company came to be and how they are using our stamps to find success for the business and get more healthy and high-quality treats in our puppy's bellies!
Sugar? Yes please! - A Peak into Sugar Plum by Kate
Can you tell us a little bit more about Sugar Plum by Kate?
Sugar Plum by Kate is a small business in the Los Angeles area that makes small-batch gluten-free and preservative-free dog treats. We even have some grain-free options! All the ingredients that go into our baked treats can be found in your own kitchen. We don't use anything with those names you can't pronounce.
What inspired you to start Sugar Plum by Kate? What was the inspiration behind the name?
I've always had a love for animals, baking, and wholesome foods and I give credit to my mother for those. So, why not put it all together? Dogs - and cats - are with us for such a short time. They deserve delicious and nutritious treats, too! I named it Sugar Plum since my mom occasionally calls me that.
Is there anything specific you'd like readers to know about your business?
One of the greatest benefits of working as a small company is that we can customize a treat to better suit the dog. For example, we had one client whose dog had minimal teeth. So, instead of giving him a typical cookie-type treat, we were able to make a wet-type treat he could lick clean. Our clients spur our creativity. With a background in business, pastry, and science, we are well suited to try to meet our clients' requests.
What makes this company unique compared to other pet treat companies?
Our company works out of a commercial kitchen to produce small-batch treats without preservatives. This also means that our treats should be consumed within a few days of purchase (they also make great frozen treats). You wouldn't buy an organic blueberry muffin and leave it on the counter for days, would you? We hope not!
We really love your logo for the stamp. What was your inspiration behind it?
Once upon a time, my college neighbor was an art major. She still loves to craft and doodle. One day, I asked her to make a doodle just for me. This is the final result of doodling.
How are you using your stamps?
I bought this particular stamp to use on my paper shopping bags to help carry my brand to the market. My brand is all about hand-crafted, cute, and natural.
Why did you decide to use a rubber stamp, as compared to another branding option?
In the past, I've used other branding products, but with the set up time, shipping and packaging, I felt I was wasting valuable resources. By using this particular stamp, I have a lot of flexibility for how I can market my company. And as a small business, I need to utilize what I have to its utmost. For example, I can use the stamp on blank cards to create personalized thank you notes, I can use it directly on paper bags as a marketing opportunity, or I can even make cute stickers.
